For each of the following sentences

(a)  Determine whether it is generated by our current grammar.

(b)  If it is, show how it is generated by providing a tree that is
     in accord with our grammar.


(c)  If there are multiple structures for the sentence according to our
     grammar, show them all and discuss any ambiguities that result.


(1)  I saw the thief with my binoculars.

(2)  The thief with my binoculars saw me.

(3)  I rode the horse in the barn.

(4)  I rode the horse into the barn.

(5)  I stabbed the farmer with a pitchfork.

(6)  I saw a bird with a broken wing with my binoculars.

(7)  A pretty pig with a large brown spot on the left side of its face

     appeared in the doorway.

Can you explain why the following sentence is *not* ambiguous?


(8)  I put the duck in the water.


Consider the following two sentences:


(9)  We put the soldier with a rifle on the roof.

(10)  We shot the soldier with a rifle on the roof.


Discuss the structures and derivations of these sentences.
Be careful and thorough and draw all necessary trees.
