Assignment 16: Raising and RSD We now have an analysis of verbs like 'want', as in (1), and 'seem', as in (2), which involves a deletion operation (Redundant Subject Deletion) in the case of 'want' and a movement operation (Raising) in the case of 'seem'. We have seen that both of these operations result in a surface structure of the form DP V to VP, but by very different paths. For each of the verbs below, first show that it also fits in that surface structure pattern. Then determine for each verb whether it is a Raising verb or a RSD verb.
