Assignment 3

Another major component of a generative grammar
is the Transformational component.  Tell the whole story, as far as
you know it, of the Transformational component of the grammar of
English.  Include all the assumptions, rules, principles, etc.
that you know about, and be sure to point out and discuss any
questions that get raised that need further study.

This assignment is primarily about the Transformational component,
but you should also pay attention to:

	(a) connections to the lexicon

	(b) connections to phrase structure

	(c) connections to morphology

	(d) connections to semantics

This is a very open problem, so COLLABORATE!  Collective memory is good.
Collective intelligence is even better.

Along the way, numerous questions should arise.  Pick one issue and
discuss it *particularly* thoroughly.
