This course is an introduction to generative/transformational grammar. The work for the course consists of homework problems assigned at the end of every class and due at the next class (a total of about 22 assignments), plus two week-long take-home exams. The problems and exams exercise observation and analysis of linguistic data and the construction and testing of syntactic theories.
