Linguistics 111 Spring 2012 Exercise 16 Due Friday, June 1 WARMUP EXERCISES FOR THE FINAL EXAM 1. Review your notes for the whole quarter, consult with your classmates, and (a) Make a list of the most important concepts introduced in this course. A small sample of items that should be in this list: phrase modifier argument subject determiner monkey Your list should be 20-30 items long. If it is shorter, make sure you have picked out the MOST important concepts. (b) Make sure you understand each of these concepts. To show that you do, provide a definition, or some examples, of each one. Discussion is always good. Finally, give a sample sentence using each term correctly. For example: "In English, in a DP whose complement has a singular count noun as its head, the determiner is obligatorily overt." (This sentence could be used to exhibit the correct use of the terms 'English', 'DP', 'complement', 'singular', 'count', 'noun', 'head', 'determiner', 'overt', and possibly even 'obligatory'.) 2. If you could ask just one question right now, what would it be? This warmup exercise should be written up and handed in on Friday, June 1.
